El Niño Forecast collects no personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs.
The app makes read-only requests to this website (enso.theconvergencezone.com) to download public oceanic and atmospheric data — the same files any web browser can fetch. These requests are ordinary HTTPS traffic and are not used to identify or profile you.
The one exception is alerts: if you enable them, the app sends the anonymous device token described below, together with the alert categories you chose, to our notification registration service (a small endpoint we host on Amazon Web Services). That is the only write request the app ever makes, and disabling alerts deletes the registration.
If you grant location access (optional, while-in-use), your coordinates are used on your device to select a forecast grid cell of roughly 100 km. Your location is never transmitted or stored by us; the app simply downloads the public forecast tile that covers the selected cell, exactly as a map application downloads map tiles. You can also type any place name instead of using location at all.
If you enable alerts, Apple issues the app an anonymous device token, which we store solely to deliver push notifications about official forecast updates. The token is not linked to your identity, is deleted when you disable alerts, and is used for nothing else.
We do not collect, sell, or share personal information. We do not track you across apps or websites. We cannot identify who uses the app.
